Fliehende Stürme - Fallen
Fallen by Fliehende Stürme (Fleeing Storms) is generally well-regarded within its niche, praised for its solid traditional doom metal sound, memorable riffs, clear rhythm section (especially bass), and competent vocals that fit the style well, even if not extraordinary; it's seen as a reliable, enjoyable release for fans of the genre, blending heavier metal elements with classic dark wave/punk. Reviewers highlight its enjoyable atmosphere and solid musicianship.
Fliehende Stürme is a German Punk band that uses elements of Wave Punk. In the middle of the 80's they emerged from the Stuttgart based Punk band Chaos Z. They changed their name because they still kept the tradition of the hard-lined, earlier days punk style of Discharge for instance but also used electronic elements like drum machines and synthesizers and formed a synthese of crossover german hardcore punk and classical dark wave. Until today, they developed consequently their own and incomparable sound. The only consequent member from the very beginning of Chaos Z is guitarist and singer Andreas Löhr.
Besides EA 80, the fleeing Orkanböen are probably the only German band that understands how to fuse wave, punk, and post-punk into a depro-anarchistic whole. Despite this prevailing apocalyptic mood, they don't seem to wallow in melancholy or completely surrender to the gloom, because "Fallen" simply possesses too much driving force for that: With "Alles falsch" and "Spieler," two uptempo songs immediately kick off this musical journey, which then glides into completely calm and depressive wave territory with "Schneetreiben." "Fallen" swings back and forth between these two poles, gaining more and more appeal in the process. Moreover, the album is far more delicate, coherent, and sophisticated than its predecessor, "Priesthill," so I can wholeheartedly recommend this inwardly blazing record for upcoming winter evenings by the fireplace.
