Pink Industry - Pink Industry

Pink Industry is widely and positively reviewed as a critically underrated 1980s post-punk band, known for their atmospheric and pioneering electronic sound that was ahead of its time. The band is celebrated for an innovative sound that made extensive use of drum machines, synthesizers, and layered, effected bass guitars—a distinctive approach for the time. Frontwoman Jayne Casey's "sensual drawl" and "awkwardly expressed anguish" are often highlighted. Her personal, dramatic vocal performances are noted as a contrast to other post-punk vocalists, bringing a human element to the band's electronic sound. Reviews often point out that while Pink Industry's music can be filed alongside artists like Cocteau Twins, early New Order, or similar 4AD bands, accusations of "ripping off" others are "lazy" and chronologically inaccurate. Many note that Pink Industry had their unique sound established early in the decade. 

Despite the critical praise, Pink Industry did not achieve significant commercial success during their active period in the mid 1980s. This has led to their records becoming valuable collectors' items.

Pink Industry were able to channel melancholy and drama into three minute songs shaping them once like a fist in your face and then as a tear in the snow (you won't forget the piano/bass/vocal performance on "Is This The End" or "Send Them Away" because it's so minimal/simple and unforgettable at the same time).
