Mazzy Star - Ghost Highway

Ghost Highway serves up two 1994 portions of Mazzy Star recorded in the moment, one from a live show and one from a radio session. We get a nice mixture of favourites from 1993's So Tonight That I Might See and earlier works from She Hangs Brightly, including Ghost Highway. There are also early versions of songs that would appear on future albums such as Flowers in December. Many consider it a valuable document of Mazzy Star's live performances, especially for those who never had the chance to see them in concert. Ghost Highway gives fans a chance to experience Mazzy Star's music live, highlighting their powerful performances and signature dream-pop sound. While some questions exist regarding its official status, the overall sentiment toward the album is positive, with fans enjoying the raw energy and quality of the recordings. The sad glamour of Hope Sandoval's voice puts its closest mainstream counterparts to shame. This live collection is as dreamy as you can imagine. The melodies are lovely and sweet, with a little winking humor which goes perfectly with Sandoval's drawl. The guitars also cast their own spell, rounding out a psychedelic country sound.
