Hole - Celebrity Skin
I never really cared that much about Hole when they were popular in the 90´s but since I really liked former Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur´s 2004 solo album, I thought I should work my way back starting with Hole´s 3rd and last album "Celebrity skin".
The band mostly was known for their charismatic front person Courtney Love, but she didn´t write all the music herself - she´s got a lot of help from guitarist Eric Erlandson as well as Auf Der Maur.
They sold 8 million albums between 1989-2002, "Celebrity skin" featured a new sound for the band where they left the punk rock sound of their first 2 albums and went more alternative pop/rock on this album in 1998.
Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins co-wrote 5 songs on "Celebrity skin", Jordon Zodorozny of Blinker The Star also helped out on the songwriting part but Love wrote all the lyrics.
When I listen to this album now I just cannot get into my head that I didn´t like ´em more back then, this is a great guitar driven rock album that features the smash "Malibu" that received a Grammy nomination. Other great songs worth mentioning are "Boys on the radio", "Celebrity skin" and "Hit so hard".
Drummer Patty Schemel didn´t play on the album although she´s on the album sleeve, session drummer Samantha Maloney was hired to track drums but she isn´t credited.
