Discharge - Never Again

What a way to end the week with an earbashing. "Never Again" is a compilation album by the British hardcore punk band Discharge, released in 1984. It's essentially a "best of" collection, compiling tracks from their earlier EPs and singles. While it's a good introduction to the band for newcomers, some fans find the remixes and remastered versions of the songs to be inferior to the original mixes.

For the uninitiated to the quintessential hardcore band, this compilation, originally released in 1984, is essential. Not to be confused with the EP of the same name, the full-length collects the finest moments of Discharge with 17 tracks culled from the band's ample discography of mini albums and 7" singles from its peak period. The choice cuts "Warning," "Never Again," and "Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing" may dispel some myths about the invention of the hardcore movement, as Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, and even Metallica were all clearly influenced by this phenomenally noisy punk unit -- not to mention the entire grindcore scene of Carcass, Godflesh, and especially Napalm Death, all of which have their roots in the extreme noise terror of Discharge. Many of the singles are unavailable elsewhere, making this an excellent intro to one of punk rock's most ferocious groups.

  1. Still good to blow some steam off at the end of the day, even after forty-plus years. Flippin' great. Also the expanded version of 'Hear Nothing...' is highly recommended. This is ace, really. I wander how Cal is doing these days, if he's still alive that is. Sort of vanished since, about twenty years ago?.. Which shows, if you want to lead a anonymous, normal life, not so difficult then.

    1. I've still to get my hands on the expanded 'Hear Nothing...' no doubt that will happen in time. As for Cal? if he's cut his hair, stopped wearing his customary leather n stud jacket...he'd pass for a regular guy (unlike Wattie Buchanan)
